Our Impact

Tourism, Innovation
& Community
Empowerment
At Sankofa Afrika Safari, we use tourism to support communities, conservation, and sustainable growth across East Africa — creating lasting value not only for travellers, but for the ecosystems and people that make Africa extraordinary.
Four Pillars of Our Impact
Our work goes beyond organising safaris. We actively invest in the communities and ecosystems that make East Africa extraordinary.
We support educational initiatives in communities surrounding the parks and reserves we operate in — funding school materials, sponsoring learners, and connecting tourism revenue directly to local schooling opportunities. We believe that educating the next generation is the most powerful conservation tool of all.
Young East Africans are at the heart of our mission. Through mentorship, training, and employment in tourism, we invest in the next generation of local guides, conservationists, and safari professionals — ensuring that the industry's future is led by the people who know and love this land the most.
From tree planting initiatives to responsible wildlife viewing practices, we actively protect the landscapes that sustain tourism. We work with local conservation organisations, park authorities, and communities to promote environmental awareness and reduce the ecological footprint of every safari we run.
Tourism dollars should reach the people who share their homes with Africa's wildlife. We hire locally, purchase locally, and channel a portion of every booking into community development projects — from small business support to healthcare access programmes in remote areas near the parks.

Every Safari
Supports a Bigger Story
At Sankofa Afrika Safari, every safari supports responsible tourism by contributing to community empowerment, education, environmental protection, and sustainable livelihoods.
By connecting responsible travel with meaningful local initiatives, we aim to ensure that tourism contributes to sustainable growth and opportunity for future generations — not just across Uganda, but across the entire East African region.
"We believe tourism should be a force for good — creating unforgettable memories for travellers while supporting conservation, local livelihoods, and cultural heritage."
Tree Planting &
Protecting the Landscapes
That Sustain Us
We work to protect the landscapes and ecosystems that sustain tourism by promoting conservation through tree planting, environmental awareness, and education.
We encourage both travellers and local communities to actively participate in preserving natural resources for future generations — because the gorillas, the elephants, the savannah plains, and the ancient forests are only ours to enjoy if we protect them today.
Active tree planting initiatives around deforested areas near national parks and community land boundaries.
Environmental awareness programmes for local schools and communities — the next generation of conservationists.
Strict adherence to low-impact wildlife viewing protocols — minimum distance, no feeding, no disruption of animal behaviour.
We partner only with lodges, camps, and service providers that share our commitment to responsible and sustainable operations.

How We Give Back
Six active commitments that define how Sankofa Afrika Safari operates — not as policies on paper, but as daily practice in the field.
We actively support wildlife conservation efforts across all five countries we operate in — from anti-poaching patrols to veterinary care for habituated gorilla families — through permit fees, partnerships, and direct contributions.
We prioritise community-based tourism initiatives on every safari — visiting local villages, purchasing from community artisans, and ensuring that every cultural experience we offer puts money directly into the hands of local families.
Every lodge, camp, and service provider we work with is vetted for their commitment to sustainability. We refuse to partner with operations that cause environmental harm or exploit local communities — regardless of price point.
A portion of every safari booking is channelled into education support for communities near the parks we operate in — school materials, mentorship programmes, and access to training for young people interested in careers in tourism and conservation.
We are actively involved in tree planting around deforested areas near Uganda's national parks and community land. Environmental restoration is not optional for us — it is an integral part of how we do business.
100% indigenous East African ownership means that every dollar of profit stays in Africa, builds local capacity, and is reinvested by people who have a deep, personal stake in the future of this continent and its extraordinary wildlife.
Travel With Purpose
Every safari you book with Sankofa Afrika is a direct contribution to the communities, wildlife, and landscapes of East Africa. Come for the gorillas. Stay for the story.
